Artist Statement

As a songwriter my goal is to establish a synthesis between audio and visual art. I paint as well as write music, and my EP, Mise en Abyme, represents this. The title Mise en Abyme is French for the concept of an image repeating infinitely within itself, but the concept can also stand for art existing within art, or inspiring other art. My song "Almond Blossom" was inspired by Van Gogh's painting, and "Mr. Nobody" was inspired by a movie of the same title. The cover art of the EP also reflects this, as I commissioned an artist, Heaven Parkison, to paint a painting within a painting in the style of Van Gogh, so that the image is infinitely repeating.

As well as balancing audio and visual art, I am constantly balancing different aspects of my identity within the music industry, dividing my time between being an artist and a producer, and recently I have become a teacher as well. My goal as an artist is to share my passion for music with all mediums at my disposal, whether it is through technology or through my guitar playing, or helping others see to their artistic goals.
